La danza Butoh, originaria de Japón, nació de la mano de Tatsumi Hijikata y Kazuo Ono que, inspirados por el impacto emocional recibido con la bomba de Hiroshima y como revolución al nuevo capitalismo que llegaba y estaba acabando con el antiguo Japón y sus tradiciones, crean este tipo de danza, la cual tiene en común con la idea de danza que todos tenemos nada más el hecho de ser el movimiento de un cuerpo.
El Butoh no narra una historia, deja que el cuerpo hable por sí mismo y exige el vacío del intérprete para realizarlo.
Para bailarlo uno debe olvidar toda disciplina aprendida, dejarse llevar y acrecentar la escucha… ahí comienza la transformación… es el cambio del orden de los sentidos. La mirada gira hacia el interior del cuerpo, deja de ver cosas para deslizarse en las sensaciones, permitiendo así al cuerpo que hable por sí solo.
El Butoh siempre trata de mostrar que hay algo más allá del cuerpo danzante, y mediante un nuevo lenguaje propone una exploración del inconsciente.
En principio el Butoh puede resultar incomprensible al intelecto y es que su poder radica en las energías internas que se mueven dentro de los bailarines que, en muchas ocasiones no se mueven en apariencia y la danza parece ocurrir dentro de ell@s, casi una danza más imaginaria que real. En otras, parece un cuerpo más propicio a escuchar que a hablar, un cuerpo buscando escuchar dónde debiera dirigirse el próximo movimiento.
Al dejar expresarse a lo íntimo del ser, a éste no le interesa si lo que sale va a gustar a los espectadores, no está allí para agradar a nadie, esta allí intentando no perder la estela, seguirla hasta sus impredecibles consecuencias sacando así, fuera, el movimiento de la interioridad, sin juicios, tan solo dejarse fluir.
Para entrar en este espacio y conectar con estos profundos niveles de nosotr@s mism@s, es necesario olvidarse de todos los condicionamientos impuestos como “ser humano”, hemos de convertirnos en “nada”, volver al inicio, a lo que somos: miles de células que unidas crean un Ser.
Hemos de dejar a un lado nuestro consciente, nuestro Ego, nuestra mente pensante y parlante y desde el silencio, conectar con ese sutíl mundo y a través de nuestro cuerpo y del movimiento de éste, permitirle la libertad al Ser.
Ese es el objetivo de este Taller, ese es el fin hacia el que encauzaremos nuestras energías en estos dos días de encuentro y juntos saborearemos cada paso de este camino hacia el interior de nosotros mismos.

Butoh-fire walk with me and continued dancing and filming dancers to spread the passion for dance, last month projected the videos I showed you on the butoh festival in Barcelona, and was quite a crowd.
Thank you so much for Subbody experience, i learned a lot and i am still
digesting it... my father died at the end, he waited for my sister and
me to we returned to Spain and then he gone, my nephew was born the day
before today, just nine months later... is curious as generational
change is occurring, and the dance of life continues...
Of course every Wednesday from 18:30 until 21:30 in Bolivia Street 7 Barcelona we are training butoh with Yolanda, Ricardo, Katherine, Sara, Niki, Migui and a lot of people more... twelve on a squat... and sometimes we talk about subbody...

We promised to visit the home every year. Each student will invent novel

From your web page I have seen what a wonderful work you are doing there
together with your students. Specially it is heart warming to see happy
faces of handicapped persons in your new photos. What a life resonance
there is between them and you who bravely went there with your opened butoh
heartconsiousnesses.
As you may remember, I am working as the dancemovement therapist with children. I have been studying more about therapy, sensory integration which is about brain function, practising yoga and meditation..trying to search for the spiritual teacher.
But I find everywhere the same thing; a lot of intellectualizing, theorizing,
strict constructions...yes it is the safe and reasonable way to be in our
society but we can`t reach anybodys heart in that way.
Now I understand that all the information is in our bodies. Everything
must be proved nowadays scientifically and sciense is a good thing as long
as it serves the big picture. I notice that even among my own profession
as soon as we start analyzing this simple wise body and its functions theoretically,
scientifically wanting to use clever, complicated words which fit into
the realm of modern scientific world.....we cut the connection. Why do
we want to be so complicated when wisdom is simply here and now in our
own bodies?
My old friend and student, Ka-ge, and Jrunan Patachat will perform at the
sixth Bangkok Butoh Festival. Both of them have continued radical activities
at B-floor Theater ,in Bangkok.

Fabricio from Brazil, now living in Germany joined the Festival for giving
color workshop with diferently abled Tebetan youngs from "Nyng Tob
Ling Help" in Dharamsala.
He is the third times to join in Subbody School. During several years he
had the experiences with them in Dharamsala.
We prepare different colors materials and let them resonate freely by spontaneously
acting in our Butoh practice.
This will be the final event of the First Butoh Festival Himalaya. We expand
the life resonance beyond every border; nation, culture, age, sex, me/you,
individual/group, different abled, and the Liveng/ the Dead.
Our work is not only Butoh performance and workshops, but we will continue
to expand various ways of life resonance experimently.
Let's invent novel ways of resonance among the world, until the life resonace
fill the world instead of the informations.

dear lee, i would like to share some some words to about my performance....
during daytime i lifed my common busy life, doing the things which have to be done... but every night i created a sacred space where i was diving into the darkness of my body...
it felt so challenging and intensive to manifest and to create my inner visons... in front of public and friends from different phases of my life... waves of tensions, fear, release and trust passed trough my body....
this process helped my to connect again... to my very needs as a human being and to my inner wisdom... by trying to find the necessity of my dance.. and what really moves me...
since many years now i carry inner visions and imaginations of the archetyp of the historical christ... i dont know where this pictures come from, but i realized the hinder me to unfold myself... what and where i am now...
i was bound by those images - so i tried the shu - ha - ri (keep, break, leave) process which i learned from you. which also goes together unfolding ones mystery by showing my flower...
at the end i received the most beautiful gift i could imagine - in the last minutes before my performance i felt the connection to the force, to the energy which will guide me and make my dance... that moment my life and my dance became oneness... i felt moved, supported and carried by it...
knowing words always are limited, i am grateful to this wonderful photographer which witnessed and captured some moments... a movie is somewhere on the way...
i dont know if it was my protodance - maybe i can just dance it once... yet i feel i can always go deeper... time will tell...
somehow i realized, i finally arrived in my body and on planet earth... so for now i dont have to go somewhere...
i can transform in many ways, in different beings, to further dimensions - but at the end i will always return to my physical body and into a human being - where i have to take responsability for this very life...
in this way i like to resonate with you and your students and wish all of you a tasty and rich festival

I follow from your website what you and the students have been doing, the work from Arnold Mindell sounds very interesting.
When i left jogiwara i went to Ladakh which i enjoyed very very much. I could feel a strong connection and a lot of quolias with the mountains there. it is the first time in my life i feel "at home" somewhere. But because of the landslides and bad weather, i couldn't stay long so I went down to Spiti Valley which is quite similar to Ladakh. very beautiful too.
and now? i am in New York!
It is the first time i am visiting the USA, pretty different from Asia. So much to do here with dances. My soul is happy to learn, get nutrition and inspiration.
I did a workshop with Tetsuro Fukuhara and his tube concept, do you know him? I enjoyed being in the tube, it's like going back to the womb or to a new world where space, gravity and the way we move into it are totally different. you can look at his website:
I had the chance to see a living installation of Keiko and Koma, 2 japanese artists. I was mesmerised by their performance, 2 naked bodies slowly moving among feathers and leaves inside a museum! i staid hours hours watching them, after a while their bodies looked like wood or insects or sculptures to me. fascinating
And do you know Sankai Juku? the director is Ushio Amagatsu. I saw his new performance "Tobari" .
so much to do and see! i must choose as i cannot do it all. i am taking different classes , one you would like, it's called continuum and based on the idea that our body is made of water and we should go back to this fluidity to help us to stretch our boundaries and get outside the patterns.
I often think of what i did at Subbody school, many things i hear and see here also come back to the breath of life, to listen carefully to the depth of our bodies and explore.
I miss your school though, i miss the intensity and depth of it. I will be back next year, for sure!

I am organizing with my dance group here a butoh workshop with Katsura Kan on december, strange, it will start right after your butoh festival there!

here i am
... in cambodia – i haven’t left this same spot. just a few kilometers away
from the ankor wat temples. on sunday i went to the temple at 5 in the morning
– on one side the full moon, on the other side the rising sun... and in
between... the mystery
i am in
love with this culture and people... i have been teaching music theory at a
traditional khmer music and dance school (in khmer language - i picked it up
quick, another one of those past life/group mind things) – i have many of the
ancient and wild khmer instruments at home and have been working on
compositions. i started studying the classical khmer dance (apsara –
traditionally only for women, but i am not a body or sex or anything like that)
it is so slow and magical.
also
teaching english at the university... and soon to teach meditation/breathing in
various places.
i just my
hands on 2 BBC series - one called human series, the other called life series -
each one maybe 500 hours of footage shot over 3 years, filming with all kinds
of scientific equipment all the stages and processes of life and devellopment
(i will burn the dvds and send them to you - there are 6 of them).
after the
first draft of editing i let the teachings sit for a while to digest – there
are a total of 310 edited pages now (i will attach a table of contents). The
next stage is a second editing, I will review the material and standardize
terms etc. Then comes organizing the material – I would like to know how you
want to present. I also saw the letter from Angeliki and perhaps she has some
ideas about how to organize.
Wanted to
let you know of all the ripe experiments, with and beyond the body. soon i will
be off to the kulen mountain nearby, where monks have been meditating in the
jungle for thousands of years.
otherwise
just the ordinary illumination of the human dream.
i am
looking forward to 2011 and diving deeper into the darkness that is the light
that is beyond words and time

I think
of you often & visit the Subbody website a lot to see what is happening

Many
times I think to write to you, but I don't.
I feel
that when I was at your school, I was given seeds.
I still
have these seeds. Maybe they are growing, but maybe also I am not giving them
enough water or light.
So much
information buzzing around in my daily life. Maybe the seeds hide in the dark.
Waiting.
One
thing stays the same - something inside me wants to dance & sing - for
movements & sounds to come out.
They do
often, but not enough as my life wants.
These
are my happiest moments - when life moves me, & especially when I can share
that with someone else.
I feel
there is a power inside & when it comes out, my eyes become bright & I
connect with others.
Sometimes
I dance & sing, walking down the street. The city is a beautiful space in
which to be alive, because it is hard pavement, hard buildings, full of cars...
The life shines in comparison to all of this noise. The pine trees are quiet...
The palm trees are quiet. There are such beautiful trees here... Some very old.
Some of them I have danced with or climbed. They give me a lot.
I learn
a lot also in Contact Improv jams. There, I can play with different people,
move together, listen, & be moved.
It is
one of my favourite things here.
What I
miss is the space to let out the monsters, creatures, other beings... allow the
transformation to take place.
I miss
to transform into other not-me-bodies.
I try to
learn from daily life, I observe what is happening in everyday relationships
& activities.
At the
same time, I know a lot of it happens on a surface level & I want to go
deeper.
I want
to go into the mystery of life. Be in closer contact. In touch.
I have
thought I would like to come back to your school in 2012. I thought this a long
time ago... Maybe already when I left in 2008...
Right
now, I don't have the money. I am working some different jobs & doing
different things.
I am
still living in Barcelona with Gorka, although he is Argentina for a month.
We
played a small concert with two other friends just before he left.
It was a
kind of resonance concert, with a lot of singing, sitar, violin, & the
instruments Gorka has made.
Monocordio,
resonant bed, koto, buthang...
It was
very special - the first time we play this music publicly. Normally we just
play at home.
When it
was over, nobody clapped. Everyone was just quiet... with eyes closed, leaning
against the wall or lying down.
The
state of the people changed...
We will
continue to explore this.
With
Gorka we explore a sound space that is something like the space you open for
the body channel.
We try
to listen & let what needs to come out come out...
I am
interested to mix these two channels, because I feel both strong.
I am
also drawing & painting sometimes... some images from dreams, things that
want to come out.
But I
think because of fear, which belongs to ego, I still don't dedicate... to dance
in whatever channel.
So there
is a fight inside, because life just wants to dance!
I am
happy that these pictures are dancing in the two festivals... It reminds me of
something inside.
And it
reminds me of what is possible to go into again.

My
friend Honza will come to your school soon, but first he will come here to stay
with me for the Butoh festival in Barcelona.
While I
was in Morocco a year and a half ago, I saw an old woman walking down the
street very slowly, with a stick in her hand & a plastic bag in the other.
I kept watching her, because she was so captivating... She was in another
world.
I drew a
picture of her & keep drawing little pictures of her. Sometimes I copy her
movement... There is something I resonate with.
I have
often imagined a performance that begins with this old woman character.
I hope

I wish
the first Himalayan Butoh festival much joy & depth.
My old friend, Seth Yarden responsed to the article "Bottom of Kazuo
Ohno"; at the below collumn. Seth have stayed at my house in Kyoto
for several years, and we have danced so many times together at various
places in Kyoto. His letter inspired me to think deeper about the big gap
between butoh and its photos. I replyed him as the following;
Seth wrote;
"Recently
I was discussing his work with the publisher of Eikoh Hosoe's photography book
using Ohno as his subject. It's a very interesting and tricky thing:
Most people have seen Kazuo Ohno only in photos. So many of the
impressions people have of his Butoh are from that. Hosoe's photography
is brilliant and deep and rich. But is it conveying something of Ohno's
work? It is so easy to be reduced to imagery and posing... Anyway,
such questions always linger for me."
"Dear
Seth
Your question inspired me a lot. I linger arround the same question for
long years, too.
Now I noticed one thing about the deep difference between butoh and its
picture.
In my feeling, real butoh is subtle resonance of life. It is made of multi-dimemsional
subtle resonance of qualia. Qualia are what our life resonates with everything.
Qualia are felt by only life by resonance. Machine can niether feel nor
use qualia.
Its picture is information which cameraman made. Infomation is able to
input and output into machine like a computer. Photographer uses butoh
as a material of his work for his imfomation-oriented work.
The
slideshow which I collected the bottom shapes of Ohno Kazuo is a information,
as well as Hosoe Eikou's work.
His photobook is a information made by Hosoe with using kazuo's body as
a material.
But, there are some mysterious things which I cannot solve yet. In case
of "Kamaitachi"(1969)which Hosoe used Hijikata's body as a material of Hosoe's work, became
a miracle. I got big surprised. In the work, Hosoe and Hijikata became
oneness.
The miracle made Hijikata famous suddenly, Hosoe got a prize as a photographer.
I loved it. But, in case of Ohno's photobook, the miracle didn't happen.
I can feel only Hosoe's ego as a photographer and kazuo's body as a material,
though Hosoe has continued to shoot kazuo's butoh for long years.
I don't
know why. The miracle may happen only once, when they success to throw out both
of their egos.
I will
continue to investigate in this question, especially, about the deep and mystic
difference between qualia and information.
Anyway I'm happy to hear from you. Your special sensitivity still excites
me.
I collected bottom shapes of Kazuo Ohno.
Only dynamic standing pose is spread to the world as if Ohno's trade mark.
I worryed about it. It guides people to a big misunderstanding about his
butoh.
Ohno's butoh was distorted by those great pose of his pictures.
Photographers used to shoot the timing of his standing and spread his big
hands to the sky.
In spite of that it is merely the final pose of his butoh, camera men aimed
to shoot the great final pose. Because it is felt as the beauty for their
eyes.
But their eyes are warped by modern daily sense of beauty.
Photographers who shoot only his great pose, distort his life of butoh
completely. And the sad thing, many Western butoh dancers are inflenced
by 'the fake of Ohno's butoh style', and it spreaded to the world.
For long long years I worryed about it.
It is one of the flower of his butoh, all right. He looked even being happy.
But flower is not made of by flower itself.
Flower becomes the flower suported by the secret and the mystery.
Ohno's real dance was wandering the dark world below the knee, he faced
to the edge of death, listen to the other world, full of the secrets and
mysteries of life there. And he found the timing to bloom the flower.
Without facing to the mystery, the butoh turns to the fake dance.
Most of photographers seem not to see his secret and mystery.
Yoshito Ohno, his son said "Kazuo had another world under the knee.
It was another cosmos for him. ' The world of under the knee was very important
for him.In case of modern dance, the tendency to orient upper direction
against the Gravity is strong. But, for kazuo, in the opposite. When he
felt something under world, he just fall down. The speed is terrible. In
a moment he was fallen."

I collected Ohno's photos of the opposite pose against the great pose of
his butoh.
It was hard, because too rare to find.
Fortunately in the works of Naoya Ikegami, I could find a few photos.
I deeply apriciate Naoya's important works. It may be usefull to save the
worldwide misunderstanding about Kazuo's butoh.
Please taste them by your life., with stopping your dayly sense of the
beauty.
We need to take off all conditions of human. And ask your life, please. "What is the real Flower of his butoh?"
"What is the Secret of his butoh?"
"What is the Mystery for his butoh?" All of the Secrets and Mysteries are invisible.
Only when you stop your daily mind, it will become able to resonate for
your life.
You must find the deepest rich Flowers of Kazuo's butoh in his bottom bodies.

Kathanna metamorphosis comes from the union of the names of the two women pictured: Katherine and Anna. Suggests the viewer a meditative space where human interaction with nature and its search identity is drawn the heart of the work. And aims to rip the nakedness of the human soul beyond the visible and invisible.

Photographer, lives and travels since 2004 between India and Europe working with various multidisciplinary projects. Butoh dance and other Eastern disciplines are completely linked to photographic expression. The concepts of (non) reality, (no) TimeSpace, deep connection with living and working in Berlin.
Subbody Butoh Method was developed by Rhizome Lee, a Japanese Butoh practitioner. “Subbody” means subconscious body. In the subconscious realm, away from the boundary of ego and daily consciousness, our mind and body melt into oneness and create world that is completely different from daily world. Though various conditioning techniques, a Subbody Butoh practitioner creates movements through exploring the subconscious realm.

This workshop will focus on the essential aspects of Subbody Butoh:
• Quiet down the daily consciousness and listen to the subtle body signals.
• Go beyond our physical, psychological and social bounds in order to create movements that are novel and unique to the individual body.
• Develop Subbody movements through opening eight channels (body feeling, movement, visual, audio, emotion, relationship, world-self image and thinking).
• Find resonance between ourselves and the environment.
• Through the resonance with other Subbodies, become Co-body.
This workshop requires no dance experience. Anyone who would like to explore his or her hidden creative potentials is welcome!

I am following every week your site and read about your work there, your Hijikata’s translation and the work of all the other people around and it is really helpful and exciting to be able now to understand and feel with my body a small part of all this huge world...
Well I’ve started too working again step by step what I’ve learned from you here, with my dance group, focusing in exploring four worlds: underground, heaven, behind and in front of us world. We’ll see where it will lead us, this is a project developing my idea of these last three years, about what “prayer” could be for anyone, what “up” and “down”, “under” and “over” worlds could bring to our minds and bodies, how these behind spirits are transformed to fears, ideas and a lot of unknown things and powers, how we could reach to this world of desires, imagination, illusions and distant dreams in front of us…a big trip inside our subconsciousness…Yesterday, we also watched all together with my group the video of Hijikata, “a girl”, it was interesting to have many different reactions and thoughts about it, mostly they were asking me why it’s so necessary to “fight” beauty, to go against beauty, (what we have in mind about beauty of course), well it seems to be a very very big subject, especially for western dancers I suppose…
Also, I am trying to organize your material, make units, copy and print everything; a really interesting book could come out of all this work I think. I have also the idea that maybe later I could translate it to my language…I don’t know yet but I find it a challenging project!
I will send later on some photos of our work in process and of course, I have always in mind to find the way to come back to you again and work more on subbody and cobody…it was so little time, and still, it offered a brand new direction to my work.

Gessuri from Guatemala, living in Canada send us a mail about his world
travel project for researching his roots. I am interested in it, then I
searched Mayan culture. Our ancester left from Africa, and spreaded to
Asia, Europe, and so on. From Asia to America across the Bering sea, and
his ancester created Mayan civilization, and mixed with Eupopian and African.
Through the history, I could understand the necessity why he had to dance
his butoh piece "When we didn't know we are human" in 2008 deeper.
The project will be so rich travel. Hope to go well!

currently writing a grant proposal for a research project for 2011.
my project will be a research into the roots of my being so it will consist
of two parts...One will be to travel to Guatemala whereI was born and from there go to visit and research all of the Mayan cities in Mexico,
Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua...
Then I want to take the essence of these roots back to India for the second part of my research into the darkness of my ancestors.
So I
would like to know if I can be accepted to come and study for the second term
of the year from August 29 to December 9 2011...
I read
that you want people to come for full year but because this project consists of
two periods of study in the same year...I can only come for the second term, I
hope this is ok with you.
My grant

different ways - so finally i could enjoy them... and later also Pia joined...
We also shared the reso touch method with atsushi and he wants to integrate
it... Mandy students got curious about the subbody school...You will be
very happy about Lincoln Dodd - he has amazing pontenzial....

I just want to say some words, because I am not ready yet to talk more, the words seemed to lose their meanings and worth during my trip to India…
I thank you so much for your teaching and your research, I will definitely come back to your lessons again, but I just want to tell you that I feel in a way transformed and I never felt my body like I do after our workshop… I really hope I will keep this feeling during my dance and my lessons which are starting…tomorrow, here, in Greece. I feel a kind of energy like I am some kind of animal and not a human being anymore…but I cannot describe it yet. I will write you again soon, because I need to be in contact with you.
The artist is good at opening another dimensions like as Rune Magrit.
A world connects to another world in various ways.
The title is "Impossible pictures", it seemes impossible in the
daily world,
but in the subbody world these are just normal things.
In the butoh score of Hijikata, "the discontinuity of space",
"behind world", and so on means like this.
i'm in italy these days, still exploring the world of movement and the idea of
butoh that got planted in me during the unfortunately short workshop that i
attended in november last year.
i'm writing to say that i loved the poetic description of butoh that joel has
put on the website. it is how i feel about it as well. when i tell people that
"i'm trying to do butoh" they are often confused as to what it means. i'd like
to use joel's poem as a means to give an idea about the "strange things" that we
are doing. the strange things that we love to do and that i myself cannot stop
doing.
I recieved an application letter. I felt deep momentary resonance . Our
school need just like this earnest student who devotes one's whole life
for life resonance and transmutates the world toward the resocracy. I introduce
the letter bellow. I beleive Megan will allow this. Resonance happens immediately

While I have studied both Butoh and Improvisational dance, the majority of my explorations have been independant and with other dancers. My current movement practice is almost entirely informed, supported and created by my awareness and connection to internal sensation and body-based processes.
I am also drawn to inviting, facilitating, and engaging in generative conversations between various disciplines, including science, art and medicine, on the topics of human, earthly, solar, galactic, and universal patterns of body/mind/space/time. By combining investigations into the scientific research of physics, artistic explorations, and the study of the human form in various states of health and well being, I am seeking a type of communicative flexibility that allows for fluency in multiple realms.
I am interested in addressing personal and social oppression, capitalism, nuclear war/power/waste, environmental degradation and abuse of the human form as symptoms of psychological perceptions of the physical patterns of body/mind/space/time. I would like to discover and present open invitations to a diversity of continually forming perceptions, while exploring the possibilities for the transmutation of our current perceptual symptoms through embodied awareness.
To this aim, I am interested in participating in, facilitating, and developing forms such as Butoh, Improvisational dance and Yoga. These forms have been helpful in centering and sustaining my body/mind, and, I am hopeful about what I perceive to be the capacity of the human form in embodied, aware motion, to continually generate modes of being that may serve to sustain and balance the whole system.
At this time, I am actively seeking an educational community that will support my own clarity and focus while I prepare to serve in the ways that I am drawn. I hope to find a container where I may integrate body based artistic practices, and intellectual curiosities, into a path of service that will serve to facilitate embodied connection, as well as interdisciplinary conversations about the body/mind, and our active role in its continual transformations.
That said, I believe that the Subbody program will provide the supportive atmosphere I am seeking. Kamabuta Tsuitachiis an experimental site-specific performance installation based on the JapaneseObon Festival.“Obon”came from the Buddhist festival “Ullambana” that celebrates ancestral spirits.“Kamabuta Tsuitachi,” the first day of the festival, is considered the day when the Gates of Hell open and the ghosts are permitted to visit the earth for the next fifteen days. The uniqueness of this project is to transpose this seemingly culturally specific idea to The Soap Factory, a galley built in an old factory in downtown Minneapolis.
Kamabuta Tsuitachi features Nenkin Butoh Dan dancers Kats D, Jan Deming, Julie Mueller, Maggie Majewski, Stacy Lee King and Susie Carlson. It also features a multi-media artist Mika Turner.

spreaded in various places on the planet, and are starting each activities,
USA, Swiss, Spain, Turkey are going ahead. And new nomads who got world
level subbodies and cobodies are born in Himalaya in each year. If we got
a little more places, we can travel among each place and exchange experiments,
collaboration, performance, workshops and so on.The life resonance will
be spreading slowly among the world. This is the dream of a quiet world
revolution through life resonance. I held it firmly and hide as a secret.for
long years. I beleive that we can manage the world by only life resonance
among us. It will be called "Resocracy", it will take the place
instead of the biggest fake political system which is called a beautiful
name of "Democracy".
It is just going to begin. We can change the world through only subtle

Homenaje a Kasuo Onho, fallecido el día 1 de junio de 2010 a la edad de 103 años.
Invitamos a todos los bailarines y admiradores de la danza butoh a participar en este homenaje.
Haremos una caminata lenta empezando en la rambla Santa Mónica en dirección ramblas arriba, el día 20 de junio a las 18:30 con duración de 30min. Vestidos de blanco o negro integral y trayendo una flor en la mano (sea ella de plástico, tela, natural etc).
El objetivo es llegar a tener por lo menos 103 personas desfilando por la Rambla con una flor en la mano. A continuación, desde las 20:00 a las 22:00 convocamos una jam de improvisación de danza butoh en el Laboratorio Escuela (Torres i Amat nº5 junto a pza. Universitat). Contaremos con la querida presencia de la bailarina Minako Seki. Las dos convocatorias están abiertas al público en general. La jam cuenta con una aportación de 3€ para la limpieza y gastos del local.
Para mí es una gran alegría organizar este evento. La muerte es el gran debut con el cosmos que hay que celebrar.

Nenkin Butoh Dan(translation: Slime Mold Butoh Collective)was established in 2010 by a group of Subbody Butoh practitioners in the
Twin Cities in order to create performance arts which are based on physical
movements that are absolutely free from cultural, social and stylistic
constraints. Our mission is to create movements without ego and unity through the freedom of body.
Kamabuta Tsuitachiis an experimental site-specific performance installation based on the JapaneseObon Festival. “Obon”came from the Buddhist festival “Ullambana” that celebrates ancestral spirits. “Kamabuta Tsuitachi,” the first day of the festival, is considered the day when the Gates of Hell open and the ghosts are permitted to visit the earth for the next fifteen days. The uniqueness of this project is to transpose this seemingly culturally specific idea to The Soap Factory, a galley build in an old factory in downtown Minneapolis.
The theme of our fundraiser is “Food, Wine and Wellness,” and it will be held onSunday July 25th, 2010 6:00-9:00 pmatFallout Urban Art Center, 2601 2ndAvenue South, Minneapolis. Ohno performed "My mother" after four years from "La Argentina"
as same as with Hijikata.'s choreograph and direction.
Mother is also the strongest Anima for Ohno as same as Argentina. We need
to be released from the bound by Anima throuh the whole of life. It means
a release from our sex bind.
Hijikata began the peice from "dream of fetus". When they stated
" The Ankoku Butoh" in 1950's, a thinker called it "Meditation
in the womb". It pointed an essence of butoh.
Because we are seemed that we are divided into the individual with difference
of gender, age, race, power, knowledge and so on as a human, but as a life
we are connected and oneness. Butoh is released from human binds and enter
the realm of life.
Ohno often said " There are no man, no woman before fetus" .
Then they become another sex, gender, gey, girl, angel, witch, old woman,
and so on. Butoh dancers are pioneers who try to live the "n'th sex".
We don't need to be bound by our biological sex.
Ohno upsereamed the womb world, he just floated as a fetus with the placenta
arround his skin. The stray was a completely inoccent which only his seventy
five years old body could do it.
Hijikata gave a choreography that dance with a small table which is the
symbol of mother. Ohno play with the table, carry it, ride on it, become
one with it.
And during the peice slowly Ohno transformed into his mother, or his mother
possessed his body. There is no subject, and no object in the resonance.
The fenomena of possession is also the life resonance. He became the possessed
body in this peice.
Argentina and mother, he acomplished the biggest life themes through the
life long and died. We borrow the human body as a temporary costume for
hundred years and return it to life. he return the borrowed costume with
his deep creation to life. It is the very perfect life.
" La Argentina" and "My mother" are the Ohno kazuo's
masterpieces. Both of them were choreographed and derected by Tatsumi Hijikata。
These pieces are the real collaborations by both soul and spirit through
over thirty years deep interaction.
When Hijikata have seen Ohno's first recital at Tokyo 1949, Hijikata was
surprized at, "It's a deadly poison dance!"
When Ohno came back from New Guinea front after the second world war, many
soldier died on the ship. Their bodies were thrown and sunk down in the
sea with a foghorn. He decided to dance them to create a jellyfish dance
for them.
Hijikata had encountered Ohno's necessary dance, it was an inevitable meeting
of them. Ohno was 43 years old, Hijikata was 21 years old.
After then they organized "the Ankoku Butoh-ha", and started for over thirty years collaboration.
1977, Ahno asked Hijikata to choreograph and direct for "The La Argentina".
Hijikata quoted his choreographed piece "Deviene" for Ohno at
1960 for the beginning of the new peice.
"Mr.Ohno, Please become the male prostitute of Jan June", Hijikata
said.
"Yes, i will" Ohno answered.
"The part is the best of Ohno kazuo" Ohno Yoshito, his son said
about the part.
Also Hijikata knew well it was the best of Ohno. he used it at the beginning.
Ohno stated at the sitting position in the audience seat, and rised up
the stage with the music of Toccata and fuga by Bach.
La Argentina has two part, and the first part was devided into four stages.
They are "1. Deviene", "2. A girl", "3. Daily
bread", "4. Marrige of the heaven and the earth".
This is one of the best Jo-Ha-Kyu by Hijikata, which so many Jo-ha-Kyu
magics are Hidden.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Kazuo Ohno on June 1, 2010.
Kazuo Ohno has transformed to weakened body as his whole being with taking a hundred years.
What is the miracle of Kazuo Ohno?
When I was young, I was so deeply crazy about Tatsumi Hijikata's weakened body that I could not understand Kazuo Ohno's butoh.
Honestly saying, I did not like his dance.
I have seen his performance so many times, it seemed as the same as always.
He appears on the stage, and arises his right arm, he sees that his soul
floating in thespace. His hand, arm and body slowly starts to follow the
flying soul in another space.
Now I can feel that is great.
But at the young age, because I was so deeply possessed by Hijikata's weakend body, I could not satisfy with Kazuo Ohno's butoh.
It seemed his habit to begin a performance.
But at that ages he put a secret poizon in his performance.
When he becomes over nineties yeas old, a miracle happened.
I saw a performance at Torii Hall in Osaka, Japan, at 1990's.
He was arround ninety years old.
He appeared on the stage as usual, and started to arise his right arm.
I murmured, 'Ummm also today he is doing the same pattern---'
At the moment suddenly his arm fell down and his body changed into so strange
shape which I had never seen.
It was so surprising moment.
I felt that he must did so hard traning for this moment.
After for long years he showed stereotyped movement, and at ninety years old he turned the table.
His performance at that day was miraculous.
His body seemed almost unable to move, his mind could not controll what he did.
He mistaked exit from stage between a stage to next stage, and showed his body as a lost way body.
There were no usual his patterns like as the soul goes ahead and the body follows it, but both of his soul and body seemed to belong in another dimension like a near death world.
I shouted in my mind, 'This is the living weakend body!'
He finally succeeded to transform into weakend body.
It was not the same way as Tatsumi Hijikata. Kazuo Ohno invented compretly
different way to be a weakened body.
It was the same way of Japanese traditional to transform into living Budda
directly.
When he finished all performance, he standed at the exit to meet audience.
I hugged his weakend body firmly. His body was so tiny and fragile, it
was already almost a spirit.
I carryed his qualia to Himalaya. He continues dancing to encourage me
in the darkness of body.
Suddenly I was noticed my intimate friend Santiago's death.
A French person visited me for applying the short course today.
After short talking, I asked him," I have an intimate friend in Paris,
his name is Santiago Sempere. Do you know him?" He asked me, "Santiago
Sempere?!. He was my choreographer!"
I surprised at. And He told me "he was died several years ago by HIV."
"Eh? Five years ago we have just talked by email. I told him to visit
Himalaya on my house. He asked me, "Yes, I will, but now is not the
time. "
Suddenly I understand his tone of mail. The reason why he did not reply
soon was that he was already ill.
I met him in the winter of 1994. That year I started to become a butoh
dancer.
I asked Santiago at a party rudely, "What is your concept of your
contemporary dance?"
He showed me a empty bottole of wine, and said "To become trasparency!"
I suddenly resonated wit him deeply. We started long deep relationship
after the moment. he stayed in my house and gave worlshops every year for
us. I learned so much thing about what is dance, what is beauty in dance.
And he left me the deep question, what is the transparency for life?
I continue to research in what is transparency for dance, for butoh, and
for life.
Today I understand his word after sixteen years, He told me that we don't need any concept in dance at all. We just need to be transparent
through dance. I needed for sixteen years to stop my consciousness, and feel the transparent
resonance of life. I wanted to talk with Santiago about this the most,
but he was gone ahead, though he was several years younger than me.
Wait a moment Santiago! I will be there soon, and let's dance transparently
together!

she stands still, but there is a volcano inside.
on the long way home, she forgott what it means to see, to go, to live.
a shadow of live is passing by. no existence, no destination, no time, now space. you think it´s reality,
but it´s just a dream.

i want to share with you my deepest butoh experience.
coming back to israel after the course in india, i didn't manage to practice butoh dance regularily. my deepest urge was to be in relashionship and create a family.
in november 2008, i met Rani, we got married, and 2 months ago i had the birth of my son Assaf.
I want to tell you about the birth experience.
Assaf was in breech position (bottom down), and I decided I want to have my labour done at home.
the contractions started in the evening. after quite short time they became painfull, and then more and more.
my body found the thing he knew inside and was the best thing for him- dance my subbody dance. this painfull feeling didn't leave any choice. i felt the oneness totally. i became many different animals, old man , baby , fetus, i was moving my subbody like I never before, fully. there was no place for ego with this pain.
many different strange voices came out of my mouth.
luckily i was at home, so i felt comfortable to be my subbody.
thank to this, i believe, the labour developed in good rythm so it took only 6 hours for Assaf to be out. also it was very helpfull because with breech position you don't want to take risks so it had to be "good pace" so not to go to hospital to c-section.
I am very thankfull to what i learned in the butoh school. i wouldn't imagine than when that inside knowledge would be so usefull.

Snowless winter Himalaya. A strange cloud like as a signal fire to tell
an emergency has comeup.
The faces of Himalayan people are gloomy. They look up Himalaya mountain
without snow, and breathe a sigh.
The black mountain in the winter is telling us, an emergent misfortune
will happen.
The monsoon of last year had so few rain, and also in this winter it's
no snow.
Dharamsala was the second most rainfall zone in India. There is an eternal
snow behind Himalaya, the snow supply water to the Ganges River during
dry season. But if no snow in the winter, the eternal snow must be shrunk.
The restrictions on water supply has started this week in Dharamsala. Only
thrity minutes a day we can get a bit of water.
People afraid that in the dry season, we cannot get water supply at all.
It's not only here, all nothern Indian area won't get water. iThe agriculture
of India must be heavily damaged. The price of rice must jump extremely.
A lot of poor people must starve. How many people have to die?
The black Himalaya in the Winter is telling people that an unavoidable
dreadfull condition is getting closer. That's why people's faces become
groomy.
The mosoon has broken.
Monsoon is the main blood pipes for the earth. What is happening about
the main circulation of water on the earth?

Ocean conveyor was active and caused monsoon.
A researcher of Climinate change; Richard B Alley explained as the following
(Sientific American, November 2004);
"As global warming continues to heat up the planet, many scientists
fear that large pulses of freshwater melting off the Greenland ice sheet
and other frozen nothern landmasses could obstruct so-called Nothern Atlantic conveyor."

winds (large arrow) as they blow eastward toward Europe.
The heat-bearing currents, which are dense, become even dense as they lose

Fig 2 is the present conditon when the conveyor stopped. No more warm wet
air goes up from Atlantic ocean. The jet stream carrys only cold dry air.
When the dry air meets Himalayan mountain no rain falls. Far from it! It
accerates the desertification. Imagine that the monsson zone on the following
map(red) becomes dry! No rice, no vegitable grows, tropical rain forest
disappers.These area has so huge population depending on the monsoon water
through the long human history. The huge population cannot survive there.
. What can we do to stop the crisis of planet
It's simple. Only one thing we need. Just activate your global resonance
as a life. Feel the misfortune of others as your misfortune. Feel the earth
as yourself. Just feel it. Don't beleive TV and newspaper. Never entrust
it to the politician and industrialist. Just open the resonance as a life.
That's OK. All of us have the deep resonativity as a life. When just we
are bound by modern selfish EGO, we cannot notice it. But we can recover
it as a life. This global crisis is the big chance to remember it, because
otherwise the ecosystem of our planet are destroyed. Slowly everybody is
going to notice it. When the resonance as a life spreads fully on the planet,
the world must change naturally by the resocracy like as all lives can
do well through the resonance. No loud voice is needed, no violence is
necessary. Just become a life. Just feel the resonance deeply. Talk with
your firiends with subtle voice, "How can we do to stop it? How can
we re-create the world?" We can invent a novel way to live together
with resonance. It is old and new way as a life. It will be called as "The Resocracy", instead of the fake political system of the democracy.

Xavi inform us his recent activities. It seems just like as Nomad and Rhizome.
Students continue resonating at various place to place with connecting
and separating flexibly beyond the borders on the planet. The streams start
moving actually. It's the biggest pleasure!

This Saturday (if the weather is good) we will make a 20 min. performance in a street cabaret with Gorka. He will play sounds with his last new invented instruments. And I'm continuing
practicing with my last creation choreography. This morning we've been
in a park, and the resonance is different depending on the place or space.
Trying to live an space to listen and improvise as same as in the school.
Now the main point is to calm down, not thinking not judgement and only
soul. I can define some moments which I'm not ready. Normally the first
time that I dance in the morning, I'm not connected at all, but the second
time it's more easy. Even if I work with my body, I have also to work with
my mind. In this case, my mind is infected by social life arguments, critics
in art.

Also I'm training with Ricardo Sara, Katherine and more people every Tuesday and Thursday at Barcelona. Two hours of body butoh physical technique training and two more hours
of improvisation and creation in clown.

I'm waiting for Asuka's response about the workshop that we'll do in Geneve normally at the end of February. I already made the flyer and the contents.
After Geneve I would like to start my nomad life. I will visit Chiara in Italy and dance with she and make some workshops that she has to tell me where.
Also we have to speak about the Himalayan butoh festival.
Just projecting on dancing and sharing, I hope this will be the guide for my travels in a nomad life. Also I contact with Catalina in Paris, she wants me to dance there for the "French people" and I also would like to become a student for one week in Atsushi's workshop in May near Paris.
So, for the moment this are my future plans, but let's see...
When I will have the concrete information about the workshop with Asuka, the pictures from the performance with Gorka and other kind of information,

She said it is a small thing, but butoh is a momentary resonance.
No mtter how long or how many audiences, if only a life and another life

in the resonance world, there is no size, no scale, no time.
Also she said she met a person who will join in subbody school 2011 at
a 10 day intensive workshop with Atsushi Takenouchi in Paris. The resonant encounters are happening at various place on the

Im Rahmen des open butoh space zeige ich eine kleine Imrovisation - Du bist herzlich eingeladen!
This open space is a possibility for butoh people, to perform in an informal
way. It takes place in the studio of my swiss butoh teacher. We can show
what we are working on. I just came back from a 10 day intensiv workshop
with Atsushi Takenouchi. It was absolutely great.
So on the 30th of january I will perform an improvisation - but every person only has 15 minutes, so it is a small thing!
I invited Pit, but he can not come. But we will meet soon and talk together.
In the workshop with Atsushi was a man called Lincoln who said, that he applied for subbody school in 2011. So I told him a little bit about the school. You will like him!

De Compostella a few years ago on Pilgrimage & some of the synchronistic

Synchronicity is a numinous happening which C.G.Jung reseached during his
whole later life.
What is the synchronicity?
I also investigated in it for long years.
Now I solve the secret as a resonace of qualia slowly.
Qualia are everything which our life feels. Qualia are resonating with
every qualia so frequantly in a short moment with urtra frequant rhythm
with string's resonance speed. Qualia are made of resonace pattern by the
Strings. Strings are resonating with ultra high speed in the hidden tiny
eleven dimensions. Synchronicity is just nomal thing in this world, because
all strings in the Universe are resonating together. Though we cannot notice
it, because it is fenomena in the hidden dimensions. Only a rare moment,
we may notice it, then we recognize it as the synchronicity.
--This is only a hypothesis still in progress of the resonance theory,
as the String theory is just hypothesis in physics, too. Nobody need to
believe it. Just we can enjoy extreme diversitive adventures of imagination
about the secret of life. Butoh is an infinite reseach in the hidden logic
of non-dual and multi dimensional realm of life with using whole body.
It is full of wonder, amazing and unbelievable numinosum.

It is the first accidental meeting after we start "Resonance Net".
When we are on the move like the nomads on the planet, these amazing meeting
will increase more and more.
Micah from USA who was a participant of open workshop of last autumn by
students, attrnded CHiara and Xavi's workshop at the Ganga river, India.
Martin from Germany who was a participant of another workshop of last autumn
by students, joined in Kasuka's workshop in Thailand.
Xavi from Catalonia is going to have a co-workshop with Asuka in Switzerland.
A applicant from Switzerland for subbody school 2012 will be able to participate
in the workshops which are planing by Asuka or Pit at the local place.
A participant of Chiara's workshop in India applyed for the intensive summer
workshop at Himalaya.
( This year we are planning to have intnesive workshops in the summer and
autumn. Wait for a while for details. It will be informed on this site
soon.)
Anyway the chances of flexible meetings has started.
The life resonance field is going to spread in the world slowly.
They are moving like the nomads beyond the borders, and connecting, separeting
flexibly like as the rhizome. When rhizome increase energy, they transform to a plateaux.
There is no begining, no end, just amplify the chance of amazing meetings
on the planet.
It becomes a stream which invades both side of bank, and will increase
the speed at the center part.

Breath Body Workshop with Ozerk Sonat Pamir
In this three day workshop our main focus will be breath awareness-movement- voice relationship. We begin with following the natural flow of breathing. Without manipulating the breath we just become aware of our body's current condition. Breath strongly connects us to the moment; we follow the emotions and sensations (qualia) brought out by this connection and slowly we let them express themselves through movement and voice.
In this workshop our aim is not constantly producing movements and sounds;
by shifting our body-mind from acting mode to listening mode, we research the movements and the voices that our body and mind needs. As the workshop proceeds we direct this research in to joints and muscles which we seldomly become aware in our daily lives.
Through out our work we will try to locate the 'dark points' in our bodies and minds where our awareness can not reach at all. Which points in my body and mind are totally out of my control? How can I use my body and voice to awaken these points?
In the final day we will work on transferring our research to performance through free improvisations.
This workshop is open to everyone who are interested in working on breath-movement- voice relationship.

Do you continue listening in the darkness of body?
I hope you to become subbody mode at least every morning thorugh swaying
meditation or some other conditioning. I beleive it grow up you to deepen
awareness about life.
And hopely you should share your awareness with others.
Please try to have your own workshop or class with whatever tiny group
is OK.
This letter is to help your daily reseach for deepening.
Subbody method is continue to deepening year by year from tha past which
you have learned. You need to deepen it by your own investigations.
When I gathered pictures of old students and dancing freinds who I met these years, for making a photo album above, suddenly I noticed an important thing.
We are resonating.
Neither I resonate you, nor you resonate me.
Resonance has no subject, no object.
Just we are resonating from both side spontaneously.
This is the principle of resonace.
And I want to tell you the real voice from the deepest of my life, before
I die.
It is "Let's re-create the world by the "Resocracy"
To re-create the human relationship of the world by the principle of resonace
is the "Resocracy".
It seemed similar to the democracy.
But, the democracy is the deepest fake in the modern world.
The idea of democracy is beautifull, but the reality of demcracy is oposite.
Only people whi has a strng power of money, strong power of knowledge can
controll the system of demcracy.
It is so simple trick, but nobody complain against the trick of the democracy.
We have to listen in the real voice of our life, "Do you want to follow
such a tricky fake of democracy?" Please ask your life this question.
Please listen in the real respose of your life.
It's takes time. I needed for sixty years to catch the real voice of my
life.
But, now I can say the following;
Everybody is conceived by such a fake ideology.
Throw away such a trick.
I could not listen to the true voice of my life untill today.
Now I can catch it,
"Let's change the world with resonance. "
We need just resonace among all lives.
We need just listening to the other's life deeply.
This is the true voice of my life which I could catch finally, after sixty
years life.

Originally, subbbody method is not depend on only Hijikata Butoh method,
I learned various things; Butoh, Tao, Yoga, Zen, Buddhism, Noh,
Freud, Jung, Mindell, Gendlin, Rossi,
Michel Foucault, Deleuze=Gaattari,
Traditional dance, Modern dance, Contemporary dance, Contact improvisastion,
Animism, Shamanism and mainly from all lives of so-called lower creatures
like as ameba, bacteria, slime, jellyfish, starfish, octopus, fish, snake,
lizard, bird, animal, tree, grass, and so on.
I mixed them, digested them, and integrated all of them into a subbody-cobody method.
It is still growing, learning, and changing everyday.
Also you have to continue to reseach, deepen, and invent to keep your method alive. Otherwise it dies.
Let's fill the world with subtle and tasty life resonance.

But in a year, we need a volunteer to take care of a new website for the resonance network. Because, here Himalaya is poor condition of internet connection. For many months, the internet connection is disconnected by accident.

At the moment I'm still in India, in Rishikesh where after the workshop with Xavi and Micah,
I did one week of daily classes on the Gangas beach. but it wasn't so a
good idea, people coming and going, it was too difficult to manage to go
deep but still a good experience for them.
Now I'm planning to do other two workshop here and waiting for some good
response from Europe may be go to Thailand and try to perform there.
I'll write to the butoh festival group and let's see.
But looking the pictures on the website I feel such a nostalghia for the
last month, the most tasted for me and I have to say thank you again.
Many people coming to my class asked me about the short term workshop in
July, so I thought that we can organize a very interesting month for those
that cannot join for long time!
